BREED STANDARD
COLOUR
All solid colours 1. White and cream poodles to have black nose, lips and eyerims, black toenails desirable; brown poodles to have dark amber eyes, dark liver nose, lips, eyerims and toenails. Apricot poodles to have dark eyes with black points or deep amber eyes with liver points. Black, silver and blue poodles to have black nose, lips, eyerims and toenails. Cream, apricot, brown, silver and blue poodles may show varying shades of the same colour up to 18 months. Clear colours preferred.

1. "All solid colours" is the operative statement in terms of coat colour of dogs 18 months of age and older. But as important it must be remembered that within colours there are shade variations and, for example, a pale brown colour is as equally acceptable as a dark brown colour; this Breed Standard allows no room for personal colour preference in the show ring.

SIZE
The Poodle (Standard) 38 cm (15 inches) and over
The Poodle (Miniature) should be under 38 cm (15 inches) but not under 28 cm (11 inches)
The Poodle (Toy) should be under 28 cm (11 inches)

1. The measuring of the Miniature and Toy varieties in the show ring is at the discretion of the judge. Should a judge decide to measure, it is advisable that he/she measure all the exhibits presented, not relying on the 'eye' to guage height.

2. METHOD OF MEASURING
a) Use only an officially approved measuring device.
b) Ensure the dog is on a firm table with a non-slip surface.
c) Allow the exhibitor to hold the dog in the normal show position.
d) Bring the measure from the rear of the dog, over the back to the withers area. Gently lower the measure, resting it on top of the highest point of the shoulder blade to ascertain whether or not the dog exceeds the desirable height.

3. The Breed Standard states that a particular variety "should be under" a specified height, not 'must' be under it. Type, balance, soundness of temperament and action should always be considered before height, yet only slight height variations should be acceptable if the three varieties of the breed are to be preserved. In addition if, for example,a Miniature Poodle measures 12 inches it is as equally acceptable as one measuring 14 inches; providing a specimen is within the specified height ranges then lack of height is not a fault.

4. If the excessive height of a particular specimen is unacceptable to the judge, the dog should be placed at the end of the line, not dismissed from the ring, as excessive height is not a disqualification.
